Queens asks the most of our schedule. Astoria to Bayside is close to an hour with the roads behaving, so we book honest windows and call when we are genuinely on the way rather than when we hope to be.

Two-family houses
Across much of Queens the standard is a two-family home: a separate upstairs entrance, a shared front hall, sometimes a basement apartment as well. If relatives or tenants share the house, it is worth checking everyone at the same visit. A few extra minutes per person closes the usual route back.
Garden apartments and co-op complexes
The low-rise complexes around Rego Park, Forest Hills, and Jackson Heights are easy buildings to work in, but they look alike from the courtyard and the entrances are numbered oddly. Send the building letter and the door code with your address and it saves us circling.
A driveway is a real luxury
Out toward Bayside, Whitestone, and Douglaston we can usually park at the house. In the denser stretches near Roosevelt Avenue we allow the extra time for the same reason everyone else does.
