We seat your child somewhere comfortable, section the hair, and work through it under bright light with a fine stainless-steel comb. Bring a book or a show — most kids barely notice.

If one person has been exposed, it's worth checking everyone. It adds only a few minutes per head and takes the guesswork out of the week ahead.

We show you exactly what we found — or didn't. If treatment is needed, we can usually start right away. If not, you're done.

- Dandruff, hair casts, and product buildup look remarkably like nits. Telling them apart takes practice most parents never get the chance to build.
