What parents ask us

These are the questions we hear most often, answered the way we would answer them on the phone. Browse everything or narrow by topic.

If your question isn’t here, call us at (347) 901-5247. During business hours we usually call back within fifteen minutes, and a short conversation is often enough to tell you whether you need a visit at all.

City living

Questions that come with living here

Apartments, school nurse offices, tight schedules — a few answers depend on where you live. These are the ones city families ask us most.

Apartments

Is the treatment safe to do in an apartment?

Yes. We use a comb-out method with no pesticides or chemical treatments, so there are no fumes and nothing to air out afterward. It works the same in a studio as it does in a brownstone, and it poses no concern for neighbors or shared ventilation.

Schools

Will the school accept your paperwork?

In our experience, yes. We work with dozens of schools and daycares across the city and provide documentation schools accept. If the nurse’s office uses a specific form, have it ready and we’ll complete it during the visit.

Timing

How soon can you get here?

Same-day visits are usually available. Depending on where you are and the time of day, we’re often at your door within a couple of hours of your call.

Local service

Does it matter that you’re local?

We think so. We’ve been making home visits across the five boroughs since 2020, so we know the buildings, the schools, and the quickest way to reach you. When you call, you’re talking to the people who will actually show up.

Behind the answers

Who is answering these questions

The answers on this page come from the people who do the visits. We are a small, insured practice that has been treating head lice in New York homes since 2020, and everything here reflects what we have actually seen across more than five hundred households.

Our method is a pesticide-free comb-out: stainless-steel combs, hair worked section by section under good light. It is not the fastest way to treat lice, but it is thorough — and it is part of why school nurses and pediatricians refer families to us.

If your situation does not fit anything you have read here, call. A short conversation is usually enough to tell you whether you need a visit at all.

What parents tell us afterward

They came the same evening I called, checked all three kids, and only one needed treatment. No lecture, no upsell — just calm, clear help.
Sarah M., Park Slope, Brooklyn
Our school sent my son home on a Friday. By Saturday morning he'd been treated, with paperwork the nurse accepted on Monday.
Michael R., Upper West Side, Manhattan
I'd already tried two drugstore kits before giving up and calling. One visit and the follow-up recheck, and we've been clear since.
